If you have already created your website, you will need to upload your website files to a web hosting service.
Here we explain where and how to upload your files.
How do I upload my website files to my hosting?
In order to upload your website files you can use any of the following options:
1) FTP clients
You can use an ftp tool like FileZilla which is one of the easiest and most popular ones.
There are other options such as:
2) File Manager tool within the control panel (cPanel, Plesk etc).
cPanel is the most popular control panel. Most of our clients use it.
Here are the instructions on how to upload website files and folders using your cPanel control panel.
There is a technical term that you need to be familiar with, Document Root. which is the folder or the location in the server where your website files need to be uploaded.
By default on cPanel servers, the document root of a website is /home/username/public_html where ‘username’ is the cPanel login user name. Keep in mind, this is for the main domain of the account.
You can have multiple websites under one hosting by creating subdomains and addon domains.
When you upload files to a subdomain or addon domain, you need to upload the files to their respective document roots.
You can find the document root of subdomain and addon domain by going to
cPanel >> Domains >> Subdomains or cPanel >> Domains >> Addon Domains respectively.
In the subdomain and Addon domain page, you can see the list of domains and document root of it will be specified for eac of them.
