Watch this video to learn how to use the Index Manager feature in cPanel.
The Index Manager is a cPanel tool which allows you to choose how you want the directories on your website to be listed. In case the index file is missing, the content of a directory will be displayed in the browser. Listing a directory’s content in the browser is not recommended because it could put your entire website at risk. When using the Index Manager feature, you can choose from these four options – Default System Setting, No Indexing, Standard Indexing and Fancy Indexing.
Here’s how to get started –
1. Log in to your cPanel interface.
2. In the Advanced section, click on the Index Manager icon.
3. Click on the folder name you want to protect.
4. Check the No Indexing radio button, as it will prevent the contents of the directory from being shown to people.
5. Click the Save button.
You’ve successfully updated the index settings of your chosen directory. Now, people will not be able to see its content.
